The Raw Diet For Your Dog - Part 2

To understand why we feed raw, you have to do a little digging on the biggest reason, the health of our dogs.

Commercial dog food is now the most popular method of feeding dogs. Yet dogs have lived, reproduced and stayed healthy without commercial dog food for thousands of years. It’s only been the last 40 years that dogs have eaten commercial dog food primarily and their general health has also declined.

40% of dogs are obese …

46% of dogs now die of cancer…

Heart, kidney, liver, dental disease and allergies are epidemic…

Commercial dog food was first made in the 1850’s in England. It was not until the mid-1800s that the world

saw its first food made specifically for dogs. An American electrician, James Spratt, concocted the first dog treat. Living in London at the time, he witnessed dogs around a shipyard eating scraps of discarded biscuits. Shortly thereafter he introduced his dog food, made up of wheat meals, vegetables and meat. By 1890 production had begun in the United States and became known as "Spratt’s Patent Limited".

Canned horse meat was introduced in the United States under the Ken-L Ration brand after World War I as a means to dispose of deceased horses. The 1930s saw the introduction of canned cat food and dry meat-meal dog food by the Gaines Food Co. By the time World War II ended.

In the last 10 years, the raw diet for dogs has grown in popularity. Thousands of people have taken their sick, allergic, obese dogs off commercial kibbles, switched them to a raw diet and have seen the dramatic differences in their dogs health and quality of life.
